Taiwo Awoniyi has been honoured with the 'Beyond the Pitch' Award at the 2026 Best of Africa Awards ceremony in London, recognising the Coventry and Nigeria Super Eagles striker's commitment to humanitarian work back home.

The award, backed by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), is presented annually to individuals of African heritage who drive meaningful social change. Awoniyi's efforts span healthcare support, social development, and youth empowerment across Nigeria.

Funding grassroots football in Kwara State

Among his most notable contributions is the full funding of the Kwara Kiddies League — an initiative that gives young players in Ilorin and across Kwara State access to structured grassroots football. The programme provides kits, equipment, and cash prizes to nurture emerging talent at the community level.
