NPFL Bans Warri Wolves Fan and Punishes Club After Match Official Assault
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a lifetime stadium ban on Warri Wolves supporter Keno Iyaruwe after he allegedly assaulted an assistant referee during the club's Matchday 10 fixture.
The incident took place at the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro on Sunday, when Warri Wolves hosted four-time champions Kano Pillars. Iyaruwe is currently in police custody in Warri as authorities investigate the matter.
Club banned from selling tickets for home matches
As part of the disciplinary measures, the NPFL ordered Warri Wolves to display Iyaruwe's name and photograph at all stadium entrances to bar him from accessing any match venue or club activity going forward.
The Seasiders publicly reaffirmed their zero-tolerance stance on violence and misconduct, stressing that the safety, dignity, and integrity of match officials, players, and all stakeholders must be protected at all times.
Beyond the individual ban, the NPFL handed Warri Wolves a sweeping set of sporting and financial penalties. The club were fined ₦4.2 million, stripped of three points and three goals from their league tally, and ordered to play their next three home matches behind closed doors.
The sanctions send a firm message across the NPFL that attacks on match officials will not go unpunished — whether the perpetrator is an individual supporter or the club that failed to maintain order in its own stadium.
