Taiwo Awoniyi, the Nigeria striker, has emerged as a transfer target for Caykur Rizespor, with the Turkish Super Lig club reportedly keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.

The Black Sea club have set their sights on Awoniyi as a frontline reinforcement, drawn by his availability and his experience in European football.

A difficult season at the City Ground

The 29-year-old endured a frustrating campaign at Nottingham Forest in 2025/26, with persistent injuries limiting his opportunities throughout the season. He was left out of Forest's UEFA Europa League squad entirely and only earned a place in their Premier League registration after a compatriot's injury opened a spot in the squad.

Despite those setbacks, Awoniyi made 17 Premier League appearances, contributing four goals and one assist for the Tricky Trees.

Competition for places makes exit tempting

With Igor Jesus and Chris Wood firmly established ahead of him in manager Oliver Gleaner's attacking hierarchy, regular game time at the City Ground looks difficult to come by for the former Union Berlin forward.

Awoniyi has featured during Forest's pre-season preparations, but whether those performances have been enough to convince Gleaner to hand him a meaningful role in the upcoming campaign remains to be seen.

If the Nigeria international cannot secure a regular starting berth, a switch to Caykur Rizespor — and a fresh start in Turkey — may represent an attractive solution for all parties.
