Yves Bissouma is on the verge of joining Ajax, with the Mali international closing in on a deal that would see him return to Dutch football after being released by Tottenham Hotspur in June.

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder has agreed terms until the end of the current season, with an option to extend for a further 12 months. Bissouma is currently in Amsterdam putting the finishing touches to the agreement with the Eredivisie club.

A difficult final chapter at Spurs

Bissouma arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in 2022 from Brighton, going on to make 111 appearances for the north London club across his three seasons there. His final campaign, however, proved to be a turbulent one.

Then Spurs manager Thomas Frank excluded Bissouma from the squad that faced Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup in August 2025, citing persistent lateness as the reason for his omission.

The Malian featured just 11 times for Tottenham Hotspur in his last season — all in the Premier League — as the club endured a second consecutive 17th-place finish before his contract was terminated.

A fresh start in the Netherlands

The move to Ajax hands Bissouma a chance to revive his career, with the Amsterdam club offering him a platform to recapture the form that made him one of the most sought-after midfielders in English football during his time at Brighton.
