Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of Sporting winger Geovany Quenda in a deal valued at £40m, handing the 19-year-old an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Quenda becomes the second signing announced under new manager Xabi Alonso, following the £42m acquisition of Atalanta full-back Marco Palestra. The deal itself dates back to March 2025, when Quenda agreed to join the club during Enzo Maresca's tenure as head coach.
The Portugal under-21 international is expected to slot into the first-team squad immediately. His versatility is a key selling point — he can operate as a winger, attacking midfielder, or wing-back.
In a sign of his eagerness to impress, Quenda spent the week training at Chelsea's Cobham training ground even before the first-team squad was scheduled to return ahead of Alonso's opening session on Thursday.
