Chelsea Stage Stunning Comeback to Beat Leeds United 6-3 in Carabao Cup Thriller

1 hour ago·1 min

Chelsea produced one of the most dramatic reversals of the Carabao Cup campaign, overturning a two-goal deficit to thrash Leeds United 6-3 in a nine-goal third-round spectacle on Wednesday night.

Leeds strike early

Leeds United set the early tempo, and their dominance was rewarded when Tarik Muharemovic headed them in front in the 23rd minute. Brenden Aaronson then extended the lead to 2-0 just three minutes into the second half, leaving Chelsea staring at an unlikely elimination.

Palmer ignites the comeback

Half-time substitutions transformed Chelsea entirely. Cole Palmer stepped up to convert a penalty in the 53rd minute and followed it with another goal just two minutes later, erasing the deficit and drawing Chelsea level in the space of 120 seconds.

Pedro Neto then gave Chelsea the lead for the first time in the 60th minute, and the momentum proved unstoppable. Danny Welbeck stretched the advantage to 4-2 in the 65th minute, putting the Blues firmly in control.

Leeds refuse to fold

Leeds, however, refused to capitulate. Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled a goal back in the 75th minute to make it 4-3, setting up a nervy final quarter-hour at Stamford Bridge.

Valentín Barco steadied Chelsea's nerves with a powerful finish in the 80th minute to restore a two-goal cushion. Welbeck then put the result beyond all doubt in the 94th minute, completing a remarkable 6-3 victory and securing Chelsea's place in the fourth round.
