Coventry City Sign Teenage Guinea-Born Forward Sidiki Cherif from Fenerbahce

Coventry City have completed the signing of 19-year-old forward Sidiki Cherif from Turkish club Fenerbahce, adding another promising young talent to manager Frank Lampard's newly promoted Premier League squad.
Cherif, born in Guinea and raised in France from the age of five, has put pen to paper on a long-term deal at the Coventry Building Society Arena. He made 12 Turkish Super Lig appearances for Fenerbahce last season, contributing two goals, after joining the Istanbul club from French outfit Angers on a loan arrangement that carried an obligation to buy.
A rapid rise through European football
Cherif began his professional career at Angers, making his debut in the 2023-24 season. When Angers earned promotion to Ligue 1 in 2024, the teenager seized the moment — netting four Ligue 1 goals before the end of December in the 2025-26 campaign.
Those performances drew admiring glances from clubs across the continent. Cherif also gained experience at the highest level of European club competition, featuring in the UEFA Europa League and in UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds before completing his move to Coventry.
Despite representing France at Under-16 and Under-21 level, Cherif was born in Guinea, giving the forward an international career decision still ahead of him.
Lampard backs Cherif to shine
Coventry have moved decisively in the transfer market since securing promotion, backing Lampard with a series of high-profile recruits. Caleb Yirenkyi, Carl Rushworth, Loum Tchaouna, Aurele Amenda, and Taiwo Awoniyi have all arrived, while Gustavo Hamer has returned to the club.
Cherif is eager to make an impression on the Premier League stage. "I'm very happy to be a Coventry City player and I'm excited to be playing in the Premier League," he said. "I'm looking forward to showing the fans what I can do and to play at the amazing stadium. I can't wait to get started."
