Crystal Palace have secured the permanent signing of defender Ben Chilwell from RC Strasbourg, reuniting the 29-year-old with the club where he helped deliver a historic trophy.

Chilwell spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Selhurst Park, playing a key role as the Eagles claimed the Conference League — the club's first-ever major honour. That success has now paved the way for a full-time return.

"It's amazing to be back," Chilwell said. "It's nice to see some familiar faces, and I'm just really excited to get back in, see the boys and the fans — and get going again."

Deadline day deal confirmed

Palace completed the transfer after submitting a deal sheet to the Premier League before Tuesday's 23:00 BST deadline, allowing the move to be finalised in time.

The England international, who has earned 21 caps for his country, began his career at Leicester City before rising to prominence at Chelsea. He also had an early loan spell at Huddersfield Town.

Chilwell had joined RC Strasbourg from Chelsea in September 2025, spending one season in Ligue 1 before Palace moved to bring him back.

Club chairman Steve Parish underlined just how important Chilwell had been to Palace's trophy triumph. "With his experience and quality, Ben played a huge part in us winning our first trophy last year," Parish said. "It is terrific to welcome him back to Crystal Palace.
