Nigerian winger David Akintola has departed Hull City after the club mutually terminated his contract, clearing the way for him to return to Cypriot outfit Omonia FC for a second spell.

Hull City confirmed the arrangement, with the 30-year-old set to head back to Cyprus — a country where he already has first-hand experience, having represented Omonia in 2020.

A familiar destination

Akintola's first stint with Omonia was cut short by the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, yet he still managed seven appearances and contributed two goals before departing. He will now look to build on that foundation with a more sustained run at the club.

The winger joined Hull City in August 2025 after leaving Turkish Süper Lig side Çaykur Rizespor. During the 2025/26 season, he made 21 appearances for the Tigers, netting once and registering two assists. He also featured in Hull City's FA Cup and Carabao Cup campaigns before his exit.

A well-travelled career

Akintola brings considerable experience from across Europe to his second Omonia chapter. Beyond Cyprus and England, he has turned out for Turkish clubs Adana Demirspor and Hatayspor, and has also played in Norway.

Now back in Nicosia, the Nigerian wide man will be eager to demonstrate what he can offer when conditions — unlike those pandemic-disrupted months of 2020 — allow him a proper run in the team.
