Declan Rice Withdraws From England Squad With Injury Concern
England have confirmed that five players from Thomas Tuchel's most recent squad have withdrawn ahead of the upcoming Nations League fixtures, with Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice among those ruled out.
Rice is joined by Newcastle United's Tino Livramento, Chelsea's Cole Palmer, and Manchester United pair Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford in pulling out of the international break. England have confirmed all five absences are injury-related.
Replacements called up
In response to the withdrawals, Thomas Tuchel has called up James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White to bolster the squad. With five players departing and only two replacements added, England's available numbers are reduced heading into the fortnight of action.
Rice's hamstring concern
Rice's withdrawal came as a mild surprise — he featured for Arsenal in their match against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday without any visible indication that he was carrying a problem. However, it has been known for some time that the midfielder has been managing a persistent hamstring issue, and this break may provide the recovery time he needs.
Arsenal will now focus on having Rice fit and available for their home fixture against Leeds United on October 10th.
Gunners still well represented
Despite Rice's withdrawal, Arsenal retain a strong presence in Tuchel's squad. Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Ezri Konsa, and Myles Lewis-Skelly all remain part of the England setup, and with the squad slightly reduced in numbers, the four Gunners could see increased involvement over the coming two weeks.
