Denis Undav Leads the adidas Golden Boot Race at FIFA World Cup 2026

Germany striker Denis Undav has surged to the top of the adidas Golden Boot standings at FIFA World Cup 2026, thanks to a decisive brace off the bench that sealed a 2-1 win over Côte d'Ivoire at Toronto Stadium on Saturday.

The VfB Stuttgart forward now has three goals in the tournament. He opened his account with a goal and two assists during Germany's opening Group Stage victory over Curaçao, performances that initially placed him near the summit — and his double against Côte d'Ivoire has now made him the outright leader.

Messi and David in pursuit

Chasing Undav with three goals apiece are Lionel Messi and Canada's Jonathan David. Messi delivered a stunning hat-trick as Argentina dismantled Algeria 3-0 at Kansas City Stadium, while David matched that feat with a treble of his own as Canada thrashed Qatar 6-0 in Vancouver on 18 June.

A cluster of elite names lurks just behind the top three. Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, and Harry Kane are all in contention as the group stage continues to produce goals at a remarkable rate.

How the Golden Boot is decided

The adidas Golden Boot is presented to the player who ends the tournament as its top scorer. Should two or more players finish level on goals, FIFA's Technical Study Group assesses assists to separate them. If a tie persists even after assists are counted, total minutes played becomes the tiebreaker — with the player who has spent fewer minutes on the pitch ranked higher.
