Egypt Coach Hossam Hassan Collapses Amid Brawl Between His Two Wives
Egypt national team head coach Hossam Hassan reportedly collapsed during a heated physical altercation between his two wives at a luxury hotel in Porto Marina, according to The Sun and Al Arabiya.
Hassan was on holiday along Egypt's northern coast when the confrontation broke out inside a hotel café. His long-term wife, Howaida Al-Gharbawi, and his second wife, Dina "Dan Adam" Mustafa, became embroiled in an argument that escalated into a hair-pulling brawl in front of stunned bystanders.
Relatives intervened and security personnel were called to the scene. Both women sustained cuts and bruises as a result of the altercation.
According to Al Arabiya, the distress of witnessing the public confrontation proved too much for Hassan, who fainted while attempting to intervene and separate the two women. However, his lawyer later disputed reports of a health crisis, telling Sky News Arabia that his client was in good health and dismissing the accounts as rumours.
Divorce and legal aftermath
In the wake of the incident, Hassan is reported to have divorced his first wife, Howaida, formally signing the papers at a legal registrar's office in Cairo. The couple had been together for decades and share three children.
Mohamed Shams, the legal representative for Dan Adam, told Sky News Arabia: "We hoped it wouldn't come to divorce, but things escalated to this level." Shams also alleged that his client had been the victim of a "premeditated attack" during the Porto Marina trip.
Ahmed Hamad, representing Howaida's family, declined to address the details of the separation, stating the family had chosen to maintain media silence.
Hassan had married Dan Adam in 2015 while remaining wed to Howaida. The couple briefly separated in 2022 before reconciling. Under Egyptian law, a Muslim man may legally marry up to four wives simultaneously, with the state registrar required to formally notify existing wives of any new union.
Hassan's contract and World Cup run
Hassan has served as Egypt head coach since 2024 and led the Pharaohs to the round of 16 at the World Cup this summer, where they fell to Argentina 3-2 in Atlanta. Following the tournament, he extended his contract with the national team through 2030.
