Everton Close to Signing Arsenal Midfielder Norgaard in £7 Million Deal
Everton are closing in on the signing of Christian Norgaard from Arsenal, with the two clubs reported to have reached an agreement in principle on a deal worth around £7 million.
The Athletic, citing The Sun, reports that a formal agreement is near, with Norgaard set to undergo a medical next week should the move be finalised.
A muted debut season at Arsenal
Norgaard moved to Arsenal from Brentford last summer in a £15 million transfer, but his debut campaign at the Emirates fell short of expectations. The 32-year-old made just 20 appearances across all competitions and was named in a Premier League starting line-up only once — in the final game of the season against Crystal Palace.
Despite his limited role, Norgaard collected three FA Cup assists and was part of the Arsenal squad that claimed the Premier League title in May.
Merseyside return
Should the move to Goodison Park be confirmed, Norgaard would become Everton's fourth signing of the summer. He would follow midfielder Hayden Hackney, who arrived from Middlesbrough, as well as Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl — both of whom spent last season on loan at the club.
Norgaard is expected to fill the void left by Idrissa Gueye, the veteran midfielder who departed Everton last month. The former Denmark international will bring experience and a combative midfield presence to Sean Dyche's side as they prepare for a new chapter in their upcoming stadium.
