Former Nigeria international Victor Anichebe is spearheading a takeover bid for English Football League club Bromley, according to a report by The Sun.

Anichebe, 38, whose Premier League career spanned stints at Everton, West Bromwich Albion, and Sunderland, is in active discussions with Bromley's majority owner Robin Stanton-Gleaves over a potential purchase of the South London club.

Why Bromley need investment

Bromley are bracing for their first-ever season in League One — English football's third tier — following two promotions in three years. Club officials are acutely aware that competing at that level demands significant financial backing.

Anichebe brings considerable commercial weight to the table. As owner of the Lumira Group, he recently backed a £20 million proposal for a major leisure development near Liverpool, signalling that funding will not be an obstacle in any potential deal.

Influence already felt in the transfer market

Insiders claim Anichebe is already shaping Bromley's summer recruitment ahead of the proposed takeover being finalised. The club have signed former Luton Town forward Victor Adeboyejo on a free transfer and brought in Bolton Wanderers centre-back Richard Taylor on a season-long loan. Both players are of Nigerian descent, a detail that many observers believe reflects Anichebe's growing influence at Hayes Lane.

A decorated career in English football

Anichebe spent more than a decade at the top of English football, scoring 27 Premier League goals across his spells with Everton, West Brom, and Sunderland. At international level, he earned 11 caps for the Super Eagles between 2008 and 2011, netting his only goal in a 3-0 friendly victory over Kenya. He also formed part of the Nigeria U-23 squad that claimed silver in the football event at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
