FIFA has formally accepted the resignations of senior Nigeria Football Federation officials, clearing the path for continued reform negotiations between the world governing body and Nigerian football stakeholders.

The confirmation came from Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), following a high-level meeting with FIFA leadership in Zurich, Switzerland, on Tuesday.

Who was in the room

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and Olopade led Nigeria's delegation, which also included former NFF President and ex-FIFA Council member Amaju Pinnick, NFF Acting General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, and the federation's Director of Legal Services, Okey Obi.

Pinnick participated in his capacity as Special Adviser to the CAF President and Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Men's National Teams Competitions Committee. On the FIFA side, President Gianni Infantino, CAF Second Vice President Kurt Okraku, and FIFA Director of Member Associations for Africa, Gelson Fernandes, were all present.

The resignations that sparked the meeting

Former NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and other members of the federation's Executive Committee stepped down last week amid a broader push to overhaul Nigerian football governance.

The Zurich talks followed directly from those departures, with both the NSC and FIFA now working to establish a framework that can guide the federation through the transition.

Olopade's assessment

Olopade described the discussions as productive and indicated that engagement among all relevant parties would continue until an agreed reform blueprint is in place.
