Garlick Backs Arteta Contract Extension at Arsenal
Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick has expressed confidence that manager Mikel Arteta will sign a new contract with the club, describing ongoing negotiations as constructive and moving in a positive direction.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Garlick offered a candid update on the state of talks, making clear that both parties are aligned on the outcome — even if a formal announcement has not yet been made.
"The process is in play, and we're all very happy with the way that's progressing. Talks have been ongoing for a while. We don't just suddenly start having talks — they've been ongoing for a number of months, and they're very constructive and very progressive."
Garlick added that finalising the deal publicly is not the immediate priority, with Arsenal navigating a busy transfer window and preparing for the new season.
"We've got a transfer window to navigate over the next couple of weeks, but we'll look to conclude that as soon as we can. He wants to be at this club, and we want him to be at the club, and I'm sure we'll find the solution sooner rather than later."
A new chapter for Arsenal
Arsenal kick off their 2026-27 Premier League campaign on Friday, 21 August, hosting newly promoted Coventry at home. The club have never won the Premier League title, and Arteta's continued presence in the dugout is seen as central to any serious challenge for top honours.
With mutual desire from both club and manager to continue their partnership, Arsenal supporters will be hoping a formal contract announcement follows sooner rather than later.
