Troy Parrott on Verge of €20m Real Betis Transfer From AZ Alkmaar

Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott is on the verge of a move to Real Betis, with the Spanish club in advanced negotiations with AZ Alkmaar over a deal worth €20 million (£17.1m).

An agreement between the Dutch side and Betis is understood to be close, with West Ham also having shown strong interest in the 24-year-old forward before the Spanish club moved to the front of the queue.

From Tottenham to Eredivisie to La Liga

Parrott began his professional career at Tottenham Hotspur before joining AZ Alkmaar in July 2024, having spent the 2023-24 season on loan at fellow Dutch club Excelsior Rotterdam.

His first campaign in the Eredivisie began in remarkable fashion — he netted 10 goals in his opening seven appearances. A knee ligament injury at the end of August halted that momentum, sidelining him until October, but he recovered to finish the season with 16 goals in 28 league matches.

A standout Nations League campaign

Parrott's form on the international stage was equally impressive. He played a decisive role in helping the Republic of Ireland secure a place in the World Cup play-offs, producing two extraordinary performances in November.

He scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Portugal, then returned three days later to complete a hat-trick — capped by a 96' winner — as Ireland came from behind to beat Hungary 3-2 away from home.

In doing so, Parrott became the first Republic of Ireland player to score a hat-trick in an away fixture for the men's team, and the first Irish man to net a competitive treble since Robbie Keane in 2014.

The forward, who has earned 37 international caps, is expected to remain central to manager Heimir Hallgrimsson's plans as Ireland face Kosovo, Austria, and Israel in Nations League Group B3.

Champions League football awaits at Betis

Real Betis finished fifth in La Liga during the 2025-26 season, a result that secured their place in the UEFA Champions League. For Parrott, a move to Seville would represent a significant step up — his first taste of football's premier club competition.
