Coventry City have secured the services of Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi in a club-record transfer, making the 20-year-old one of the most expensive arrivals in the Premier League newcomers' history.

The Sky Blues are believed to have paid Danish club Nordsjaelland £23.1 million, with a further £2.5 million available in add-ons. Yirenkyi has signed a long-term contract at Coventry.

He joins fellow African international Frank Onyeka, the Nigeria midfielder who made his loan move to Coventry permanent after impressing last season.

A World Cup breakthrough

Yirenkyi made his senior international debut for the Black Stars in May 2025, going on to feature at this summer's World Cup. He left a lasting mark on the tournament by netting a stoppage-time winner in Ghana's group-stage victory over Panama.

The versatile midfielder is equally comfortable at right-back, a quality he has demonstrated for both club and country.

From Right to Dream to the top flight

Yirenkyi is a graduate of the Right to Dream academy, the renowned Ghanaian football development programme. He joined Nordsjaelland in 2024 and made an immediate impact, claiming the Danish Superliga's young player of the year award last season.

He becomes Coventry's fifth summer recruit under manager Frank Lampard, who guided the club back into the top flight after a 25-year absence from England's top division.
