NPFL Set to Unveil $7.5 Million Title Sponsor Ahead of 2026/27 Season

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is on the verge of announcing a major new title sponsorship deal worth $7.5 million over three years, chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye has confirmed — with the unveiling expected before the 2026/27 season kicks off.

Elegbeleye made the announcement in Ibadan on Friday, 7 August 2026, during the league's Annual General Meeting. He declined to name the incoming sponsor but confirmed the financial terms and pledged that clubs would benefit directly from the agreement.

More money for clubs

"We are going to have a title sponsor before the start of the season," Elegbeleye told those gathered at the AGM. "What this means is that there is going to be more money for the clubs at the end. In the next two weeks, we will call a press conference for the unveiling, and the media will be invited."

The three-year deal represents a significant commercial step forward for Nigerian club football, strengthening the NPFL's revenue base and increasing the financial resources available to its member clubs.

End of the Bet9ja era

The incoming arrangement brings to a close the tenure of Bet9ja as title sponsor. The betting company first entered into a sponsorship agreement with the former league managers, the League Management Company (LMC), in September 2021, with the deal formally announced in December of that year.

The new partnership is expected to provide the NPFL with a broader commercial platform as the league looks to raise its profile and the standards of top-flight football in Nigeria. A formal press conference, open to media, is anticipated within a fortnight of the AGM.
