Grealish Remains Sidelined for Everton Ahead of Coventry Clash

yesterday·2 min

Jack Grealish will not be available for Everton when they host Coventry in the Premier League on Friday, manager David Moyes has confirmed — extending the on-loan Manchester City midfielder's absence into a third consecutive match.

Grealish, 31, was left out of Everton's last two fixtures, a Premier League game and a Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle, after what the club described as a breach of club discipline, understood to involve an unauthorised absence from training.

Moyes keeps his cards close

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Moyes was careful with his words: "No, Jack is not available. I wouldn't give you the plan but we will be working with Jack again soon."

The Everton manager had addressed the situation after Monday's victory at St James' Park, stating that Grealish still had a future at the club — but stopped short of offering any timeline for his return.

When asked whether the upcoming international break might provide an opportunity to resolve the dispute, Moyes said: "We just need to wait and see how things go."

A difficult season for the City loanee

The situation adds further frustration to what has been a turbulent stint for Grealish at Goodison Park. After making just six appearances in his second loan spell this season, the midfielder had already found himself on the periphery before this latest episode.

Grealish arrived at Everton determined to revive a career that had stalled at Manchester City, where he cost the club £100 million when he joined in 2021. He played a key part in City's historic 2022-23 Treble triumph, but gradually lost his place in the team.

His first loan at Everton last season yielded two goals in 22 games, though injury cut that spell short. He returned this season hoping for a fresh start, with his contract at City due to expire at the end of the campaign.
