City were reduced to ten men as early as the 23rd minute when Phil Foden received a straight red card for violent conduct. The flashpoint came after a touchline tangle with Bruno Fernandes left Foden on the ground — and the City forward responded by driving both feet into the United captain's stomach. Referee Michael Oliver had no hesitation, and VAR confirmed the decision. It was the first red card for a City player in a top-flight Manchester derby since 2006.

United hit the woodwork twice

Despite the numerical deficit, City defended with discipline and structure throughout.
