Henderson Taken to Hospital After Freak Post-Match Injury at World Cup

Jordan Henderson's evening turned from celebration to concern after England's dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico in the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the Brentford midfielder falling over an advertising board during post-match festivities and suffering a suspected wrist injury.
England set up a quarter-final against Norway in the process, having made history at the Estadio Azteca — delivering only a third defeat to the tournament's co-hosts in a pulsating encounter under the Mexico City lights.
Henderson, 36, did not feature on the pitch but still managed to make headlines. He picked up a booking as an unused substitute after an altercation on the touchline in the closing stages of the match. His night then took a far more serious turn when he tumbled over an advertising board while joining his teammates in celebrating the historic win.
The midfielder was given oxygen and carried from the pitch on a stretcher, raising immediate concerns over his availability for the quarter-final and potentially the remainder of the tournament.
Team captain Harry Kane played down the severity, telling BBC Sport: "Hendo just fell over there. I think he's ok. Something to do with his arm." Jude Bellingham was similarly measured, describing the situation as "a bit of bother."
However, England manager Thomas Tuchel offered a more sobering assessment, confirming Henderson had been taken to hospital for further examination.
"Jordan injured his wrist, it just doesn't fit to the evening that Jordan is not with us. I don't know the procedure, the doctor told me he is in the hospital," Tuchel said.
Henderson has had limited involvement at this World Cup, with his only appearance coming as a late substitute in England's final group stage win over Panama. The England camp has yet to issue a formal injury update, but a return to action against Norway appears unlikely given the circumstances.
