Ilgiz Tantashev to Referee Scotland vs Morocco in Crucial World Cup Group C Clash

Scotland and Morocco square off tonight in a pivotal Group C encounter at the FIFA World Cup, with both sides eyeing a place in the knockout stage. A victory for Scotland would go a long way toward securing their progression, though Morocco — one of the group's strongest teams — will pose a stern test.
Uzbek referee takes charge for the first time at a World Cup
Ilgiz Tantashev, an experienced Uzbek referee, has been appointed to officiate the match. Tantashev brings considerable pedigree from the Asian Champions League and has crossed paths with Morocco before — he refereed their Olympic semi-final against Spain in 2024.
Tonight's fixture marks Tantashev's debut at a FIFA World Cup. He follows a distinguished lineage of Uzbek officials on the global stage; his compatriot Ravshan Irmatov holds the record for the most World Cup matches refereed by a single official, having taken charge of 11 games between 2010 and 2018.
Full officiating panel
Tantashev will be flanked by two fellow Uzbek officials: Andrey Tsapenko and Timur Gaynullin serve as assistant referees on the touchlines. Adham Makhadmeh from Jordan takes the role of fourth official, with fellow Jordanian Mohammad Al-Khalaf designated as reserve assistant referee. Armando Villarreal of the United States has been named Video Assistant Referee.
What's at stake
A Scotland win tonight would effectively confirm their spot in the last 16. Morocco, meanwhile, still have work to do — their earlier draw against Brazil means another positive result is required in their final group game regardless of tonight's outcome.
Defeat for either side would not spell automatic elimination, as the eight best third-place finishers across all groups advance to the knockout rounds. The match kicks off at 11pm and is available free-to-air on ITV1 and STV in the United Kingdom.
