FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, using the occasion to congratulate Spain on a remarkable run of football success and to discuss the joint bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030.
A golden generation bearing fruit
Spain's men's national team claimed the UEFA EURO 2024 title this summer and added gold at the Men's Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024, cementing the country's standing as one of the world's most productive football nations. Those triumphs sit alongside Spain's existing titles: the FIFA Women's World Cup, won in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand in 2023, and the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, won in India in 2022.
Infantino praised Spain's consistent ability to develop elite talent across all age groups and both genders, framing those achievements as the product of a long-standing and structured approach to the game.
