Canada midfielder Ismael Kone has expressed his gratitude to team-mates and supporters following surgery on a broken leg suffered during his side's commanding 6-0 victory over Qatar.

The 24-year-old was on the receiving end of a dangerous late challenge from Assim Madibo while contesting possession during Thursday's Group B fixture. Players from both sides were visibly shaken as Kone underwent extended treatment on the pitch before eventually being carried off on a stretcher — but not before he managed to wave to the crowd.
