Former Nigeria Super Eagles striker Josh Maja is closing in on a free transfer to Ligue 1 side Le Havre, following his departure from English Championship club West Bromwich Albion.

Reports from France indicate the 27-year-old has agreed personal terms on a two-year contract with the Normandy club, which includes an option to extend by an additional year.

End of the road at West Brom

Maja entered the summer as a free agent after turning down West Bromwich Albion's offer of a contract renewal, ending a three-year stay at The Hawthorns. He had originally joined the Baggies in 2023 when his deal with French club Bordeaux expired.

Injury disruptions were a recurring theme throughout his time in the Midlands, yet Maja still left his mark whenever he was fit to play. His standout campaign came in 2024/25, when he finished as West Brom's top scorer with 12 goals—despite missing the entire second half of the season through injury.

Fitness problems had also curtailed his debut 2023/24 season and resurfaced during his final year at the club. Even so, his contributions under manager James Morrison proved vital as West Bromwich Albion successfully avoided relegation from the Championship.

A familiar setting in France

A move to Le Havre would represent a return to familiar territory for Maja, who previously played in Ligue 1 with Bordeaux after launching his professional career at Sunderland in England.

Le Havre are eager to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of the new Ligue 1 season, and the club believe Maja's dual experience in French and English football will bring both quality and depth to their forward line.
