Karekezi Credits CAF Interclub Football for Shaping His European Career

Olivier Karekezi, one of Rwanda's most celebrated footballers, says the experience of competing in CAF Interclub competitions was instrumental in equipping him for a professional career in Europe.
Karekezi began his career at APR FC in Kigali before earning a move to Swedish club Helsingborgs IF in 2005. He later returned to APR FC, then extended his career further with Tunisian outfit Club Athletique Bizertin. His time in Scandinavia also included stints at Hamarkameratene and Östers IF.
Lessons from two-legged ties
The former Rwanda international credits the specific demands of two-legged CAF ties for sharpening his tactical and mental edge before he set foot in Europe.
