Keep Tuchel in Charge, Peter Reid Urges FA After England's World Cup Exit

Peter Reid, a former England international who represented the national side at the 1986 World Cup, has urged the Football Association (FA) to stand behind Thomas Tuchel and resist pressure to make a managerial change following England's elimination at the semi-final stage.
Reid delivered his verdict on BBC Breakfast in the aftermath of the defeat, arguing that reaching the final four is itself a meaningful achievement — and that constant upheaval in the dugout serves no one.
"We've got to a semi-final, you've got to stick with Tuchel, you can't keep changing managers," Reid said.
He acknowledged the pain of the result while refusing to pin blame on the manager. "I'm disappointed by the result, but the better team won," he added. "Argentina are technically good footballers, but physically they're hard, and they get at you — that's where you've got to keep your discipline."
Tuchel has faced scrutiny from pundits and sections of the media over his tactical approach in the semi-final, with critics questioning several decisions during the defeat to Argentina. But voices such as Reid's have pushed back, insisting that continuity must take priority over short-term reaction.
England will face France in the third-place playoff on July 18 before the squad breaks for the summer. Despite the exit from the knockout rounds, Tuchel's future is already settled — he recently signed a two-year contract extension and will lead the Three Lions into the Euro 2028 campaign.
