Leeds United have secured the services of Swiss defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach, with the deal worth an initial £6.8 million rising to a potential £8.5 million through add-ons.

The 29-year-old arrives at Elland Road reuniting with manager Daniel Farke, who previously led Borussia Monchengladbach during the 2022-23 Bundesliga season.

A decade of loyalty at Monchengladbach

Elvedi spent 11 years with the German club, amassing 364 appearances — a testament to his standing and reliability at Borussia Monchengladbach.

On the international stage, he has earned 73 caps for Switzerland and featured in every minute of their recent run to the World Cup quarter-finals.

Leeds' busy summer window

Elvedi becomes Leeds United's fourth summer recruit, following the arrivals of James Trafford, Harry Wilson, and fellow defender Tarik Muharemovic.

His signing has also facilitated movement elsewhere in the squad — defender Sebastiaan Bornauw has departed Elland Road on a season-long loan to Hamburg, while striker Joel Piroe joined West Ham on a similar temporary deal.

Leeds United open their Premier League campaign on Saturday with an away fixture against Nottingham Forest.
