Liverpool have made a formal approach to Crystal Palace over a potential move for Senegal winger Ismaila Sarr, as manager Andoni Iraola's side seeks to strengthen its attacking options.

The approach comes after talks with Brighton & Hove Albion over Yankuba Minteh have stalled. Brighton are demanding £80 million for Minteh, having already rejected two Liverpool bids — the most recent of which was worth £60 million. Liverpool are unwilling to match that valuation for a player who is injured and not expected to return until October.

Palace firm on Sarr's status

Crystal Palace have made clear they have no intention of selling Sarr at this stage of the transfer window. The club regard the 28-year-old as not for sale, and he still has three years remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

Sarr was absent from Palace's opening Premier League fixture — a defeat at Everton. While some reports suggested he was refusing to train, it is understood the winger is currently dealing with an injury.

Barcola the priority, Gakpo future uncertain

PSG's Bradley Barcola remains Liverpool's primary target out wide, though the club have not ruled out signing more than one winger before the transfer window closes.

Cody Gakpo has attracted interest from both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. Liverpool are not prepared to sell the Dutchman at this point, but should he depart, Iraola's side would need to bring in two wide players as replacements.
