Madagascar's national team, the Barea, have touched down in Uyo ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying opener against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

A delegation of 28 players and officials landed at Victor Attah International Airport at around 2:05 p.m. before transferring to their hotel following immigration formalities. Further members of the travelling party are expected to join them on Tuesday.

Corentin Martins' side will meet the Super Eagles in a matchday one encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Friday. Four days after that fixture, the Barea head home to host Tanzania's Taifa Stars in their matchday two match.

Madagascar's recent record against Nigeria

The visitors arrive with reason for confidence. Their most significant meeting with Nigeria came at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where the Barea claimed a memorable 2-0 group-stage victory over the Super Eagles — a result that remains a landmark moment for Malagasy football.

Nigeria will be eager to correct that record on home soil when the two sides meet on Friday in Uyo.
