Manchester City have wrapped up the signing of winger Iliman Ndiaye from Everton for a fee of £65 million, confirming the move on Tuesday evening.

The transfer is structured as a £60m guaranteed fee with a further £5m in performance-related bonuses. Ndiaye, 26, has committed to a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Gakpo pursuit falls short

City had initially targeted Liverpool's Cody Gakpo, submitting an £80m bid for the Dutch winger earlier this week. Liverpool turned down the offer, with the Merseyside club reluctant to sanction the sale given their concerns about finding a suitable replacement.

With that avenue closed, City moved swiftly and secured Ndiaye as their primary wide reinforcement before the transfer window shuts.

Depth concerns on the wing

The acquisition addresses a pressing need for Enzo Maresca's squad. City allowed both Savio and Omar Marmoush to depart for Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, leaving the team stretched in wide attacking areas.

The depth problem was evident last Friday, when City named no recognised winger on the bench for their victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Phil Foden was deployed out wide for the occasion — a position Maresca himself acknowledged is not the midfielder's natural role.

Separately, City have also agreed a joint-British record deal for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez on Deadline Day, as the club looked to strengthen both wide and central areas before the window closed.
