Manchester United have struck a deal worth up to £70m to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, with the two clubs reaching an agreement on Friday evening.

The 22-year-old Cameroon international is now free to undergo his medical with United after Brighton and the Old Trafford club broke through a week of negotiations. The initial transfer fee stands at £65m, with a further £5m available in add-ons. Brighton have also secured a sell-on clause as part of the arrangement.

Baleba becomes United's third midfield signing of the summer. The club had already brought in Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa before turning their attention to the Cameroonian international.

United's recruitment drive in the centre of the pitch reflects a clear intent to reshape the engine room at Old Trafford ahead of the coming season.
