Manchester United Eye Eduardo Camavinga as Real Madrid Weigh Summer Sale

1 hour ago·2 min

Manchester United are targeting Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga as the club continues to reshape their engine room ahead of a return to the Champions League, according to the Daily Mail.

United have already moved decisively this summer, signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa in a combined outlay of around £83 million. Now, with Casemiro gone and Manuel Ugarte sidelined by a serious knee injury, a further addition in midfield has become a pressing need.

Real Madrid open to a departure

The report suggests Real Madrid are prepared to sell Camavinga this summer, partly to free up funds for their own transfer activity. The 23-year-old arrived at the Bernabeu from Rennes in 2021 as a highly regarded teenager and has spent five seasons with Los Blancos since. Despite his desire to stay at the club, the Spanish giants may prioritise financial flexibility over sentiment.

United are said to be looking at more budget-conscious options after their significant spending on Santos and Tielemans. How much Real Madrid demand for Camavinga will therefore be central to whether a deal materialises. Camavinga was also absent from France's World Cup squad, which may influence his market value.

City competition and alternative targets

Manchester City are also monitoring Camavinga but are understood to be focused primarily on signing Lille teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi. The 18-year-old was one of Morocco's standout performers at the World Cup, drawing widespread admiration across the tournament.

Should United fail to land Camavinga, Roma's Manu Kone has emerged as a credible alternative. Kone impressed across his five appearances for France at the World Cup, and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has reported that United have already contacted Kone's representatives to open discussions.

Ederson pursuit ends

United's bid to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson appears to have collapsed. Romano has stated that the deal is off, having reportedly been close to completion before the World Cup began.

With several options reportedly on their shortlist, United are determined to add a defensive-minded midfielder before the window closes — and complete what has been an ambitious rebuild at the heart of their squad.
