Manchester United in Talks to Sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa
Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans, with discussions accelerating in the wake of Belgium's elimination from the World Cup.
Tielemans, 29, arrived at Villa Park in 2023 as a free agent following his departure from Leicester City and has gone on to make 134 appearances for the club, contributing 10 goals across all competitions.
The Belgium international was part of an Aston Villa side that reached new heights under manager Unai Emery, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in consecutive seasons and advancing to the quarter-finals of that competition. Most notably, Tielemans opened the scoring in Villa's UEFA Europa League final victory over Freiburg last season, cementing his status as a key figure at the club.
Prior to his move to Villa, Tielemans collected two honours at Leicester City — the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
United's busy summer window
The potential arrival of Tielemans forms part of a significant midfield overhaul at Old Trafford. Manchester United have already agreed a £50 million deal to bring Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos to the club.
Meanwhile, United's pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson appears to have ended. Sky in Italy reported that a previously agreed £38 million deal for the Brazil international — who represented his country at the World Cup — has fallen through, despite the player having been set to sign a four-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months.
The move for Tielemans would hand United a proven, experienced operator in the heart of midfield as they look to reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
