Scott McTominay, the former Manchester United midfielder now at Napoli, is set to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with a minor heart arrhythmia, the Serie A club confirmed on Tuesday.

Napoli announced that McTominay will have a pulsed field ablation — a minimally invasive procedure used to correct irregular heartbeats. The club added that the 29-year-old will remain sidelined until after the season's first international break, meaning his earliest possible return is in October.

"Following the development of a minor, benign arrhythmia, Scott McTominay over the coming days will undergo an operation a PFA (pulsed field ablation)," Napoli said.

The diagnosis comes at a difficult moment for the Scottish international. McTominay was forced off in the second half of Napoli's 2-1 defeat to Como on Sunday — a result that will now be compounded by an extended absence from the squad.
