AS Monaco are preparing to part ways with Paul Pogba, bringing an abrupt end to the former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder's comeback in professional football, according to French outlet Nice-Matin, as reported by Yahoo Sports.

The Ligue 1 club communicated their intention to terminate Pogba's contract several weeks ago, and negotiations over a financial settlement — covering any outstanding wages owed to the player — are now underway.

A return that never took off

Pogba arrived at Monaco on a free transfer last summer, following the conclusion of his doping ban, which had kept him out of professional football since 2023. His comeback, however, never gained momentum — he managed only six appearances across the season, accumulating a meagre 105 minutes on the pitch.

The situation was further complicated when Pogba used social media to publicly declare his intention to remain at the club for another season, catching Monaco off guard at a time when no formal discussions about his future had taken place. That announcement now appears to have been premature, as the Frenchman will not be continuing his career in the Principality.

A career that once reached the summit

Pogba launched his professional career at Manchester United, featuring in the 2011–12 season before limited opportunities prompted him to join Juventus on a free transfer in 2012. In Turin, he transformed into one of Europe's most complete midfielders.

At Juventus, Pogba was central to four consecutive Serie A title wins and two Coppa Italia triumphs, including domestic doubles in the 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons. His performances also helped Juventus reach the 2015 UEFA Champions League final — their first appearance in the competition's showpiece in 12 years — earning him places in both the UEFA Team of the Year and the FIFA FIFPro World11.
