Monza have secured the permanent signing of Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsamiro from Serie A champions Inter Milan, ending a transfer saga that drew interest from clubs across Europe.

Inter Milan will receive €7.5 million for the deal, which also includes a 10 percent sell-on clause on any future transfer of the player. Crucially, no buy-back clause was inserted, signalling that the Nerazzurri have chosen to part ways permanently with an academy graduate they brought to Italy from Nigeria.

Beating the competition

Akinsamiro attracted suitors from multiple leagues before Monza prevailed. Bologna, from Serie A, as well as Bundesliga outfits Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach all registered interest, but the 21-year-old ultimately chose Monza as his destination.

From Remo Stars to San Siro

Inter Milan brought Akinsamiro to Italy in January 2023 after spotting him at Nigeria Premier Football League side Remo Stars. He made one Serie A appearance for Inter during their title-winning campaign, giving him a brief taste of life at the highest level of Italian football.

The defensive midfielder spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Sampdoria, contributing one goal across 35 league appearances. He then moved to Pisa on another loan, registering one assist in 25 league outings before his future was finally resolved with this permanent move to Monza.

Super Eagles recognition

Akinsamiro's development has not gone unnoticed at international level. He was included in Nigeria's Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, underlining his growing profile within Nigerian football.

Now freed from the uncertainty of loan football, Akinsamiro will be eager to establish himself as a consistent presence in Serie A with Monza and build on the foundation laid across two successive loan spells.
