Napoli Appoint Allegri as New Head Coach on Four-Year Deal

Napoli have confirmed the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach, with the 58-year-old signing a contract that runs through June 2029.

Allegri steps into the role vacated by Antonio Conte, who departed the Naples club at the end of May after two seasons. Conte had delivered the 2024-25 Serie A title in his first year before Napoli finished second the following campaign.

Allegri's return to Naples

The appointment carries a personal dimension — Allegri briefly represented Napoli as a player during the 1997-98 season. His return to the club had been delayed while the formalities of ending his contract with Milan were settled.

Allegri was dismissed by Milan at the close of last season after a difficult 2025-26 campaign. The club finished fifth, missing out on Champions League qualification following just two wins in their final eight league fixtures. His exit was part of a wider overhaul at the San Siro, with sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada, and chief executive Giorgio Furlani all departing alongside him.

A record-breaking coaching career

Allegri is among the most decorated managers in Italian football. He claimed the Serie A title with Milan in 2011 before embarking on a dominant first stint at Juventus, where he led the Turin side to five consecutive Serie A championships between 2014 and 2019, four straight Coppa Italia victories, and two Italian Super Cups. During that spell, Juventus also reached the Champions League final in both 2015 and 2017.

He returned to Juventus in 2021, adding a fifth Coppa Italia to his collection in 2024 before taking the Milan job for a second time ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Across his entire managerial career, Allegri has accumulated six Serie A titles, five Coppa Italia trophies, and three Italian Super Cups, and has twice been named Serie A Coach of the Year.
