Nathan Ake Seals Fenerbahce Move After Six Years at Manchester City
Dutch defender Nathan Ake has left Manchester City to join Turkish club Fenerbahce, drawing the curtain on a six-year chapter at the Etihad Stadium. Fenerbahce confirmed the transfer on Friday, though the contract duration and the fee involved were not disclosed.
Ake, 31, arrived at Manchester City from Bournemouth in 2020 in a deal reportedly worth €45 million. The Hague-born centre-back went on to make 177 appearances in all competitions for the club, collecting 12 trophies during his time in Manchester.
World Cup involvement before the switch
Before sealing his move to Istanbul, Ake featured for the Netherlands at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He played in three of Oranje's four matches at the tournament and was part of the starting lineup against Morocco in the round of 32.
Fenerbahce's frustrating season
Ake arrives at a Fenerbahce side hungry for domestic success after yet another near miss in the Turkish league. The Istanbul club finished the season a single point behind champions Galatasaray — their twelfth consecutive season without a league title.
Following that disappointment, Fenerbahce parted ways with manager Domenico Tedesco after just one season in charge. The club has since turned to a familiar figure, bringing back Ismail Kartal for a fourth stint as head coach.
