Hull City suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season on Saturday, falling 2-1 at Newcastle United's St. James' Park — a result that also ended their unbeaten run in the league.

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi played the full 90 minutes for Hull, unable to prevent a strong Newcastle performance from claiming all three points.

Fast start from Newcastle

Newcastle made a devastating early impression, with Joe Willock breaking the deadlock after just three minutes. Lewis Hall then extended the advantage to 2-0 only four minutes later, giving the hosts a commanding position inside the opening quarter-hour.

Newcastle had the opportunity to put the game beyond doubt in first-half added time, but Yoane Wissa squandered a penalty. That missed chance would prove costly in terms of a nervy second half, as Mohamed Ali-Cho pulled one back for Hull in the 67th minute to set up a tense closing spell.

Despite Ali-Cho's goal sparking a late Hull push, Newcastle held firm to secure the victory and inflict Hull's first league loss of the campaign.

Brighton dismantle Arsenal

Elsewhere, Brighton & Hove Albion delivered a commanding performance at the AMEX Stadium, beating Arsenal 3-0 to shatter the champions' unbeaten start to the season.

Pascal Gross opened the scoring in the 31st minute, before Charalampos doubled Brighton's lead right on the stroke of half-time at 45 minutes. Chema Andres then wrapped up a dominant afternoon for Brighton with a third goal in the 57th minute.

The result was a significant statement — Arsenal had gone into the fixture as the defending champions and one of the division's form sides, making Brighton's ruthless display all the more striking.
