Okafor Seals Leeds Win as Spurs Fall to Late Elland Road Sucker-Punch

18 minutes ago·2 min

Leeds United extinguished Tottenham Hotspur's recent run of form with a dramatic late winner at Elland Road, substitute Noah Okafor netting just two minutes after his introduction to settle the contest.

Okafor the decisive spark

Manager Daniel Farke's decision to send Okafor on in the 77th minute proved inspired. The forward wasted no time, converting with a composed finish to give Leeds all three points and halt any momentum Spurs had been building.

Ethan Ampadu was the heartbeat of the Leeds midfield, the captain marshalling play with authority throughout. Gabriel Gudmundsson dazzled in the first half with incisive forward runs before being forced off at the break, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin worked tirelessly and unselfishly, teeing up Ao Tanaka for a chance that should have been taken.

At the other end, Lukas Nmecha struggled and squandered what should have been a headed goal — James Trafford's opposite number Antonin Kinsky denying Sean Longstaff at close range to keep Spurs in it longer than perhaps their display merited.

Van Hecke's defiance not enough

Jan Paul van Hecke produced one of his finest outings in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt — commanding in the air, assured in possession, and almost snatching a point in the dying seconds. His late effort forced a vital stop from Trafford, but the Leeds goalkeeper held firm.

Micky van de Ven was a reliable presence in the Spurs backline, though he picked up a booking for pulling back Jayden Bogle. Bogle himself was fortunate to avoid a red card after a reckless challenge on Mathys Tel, who could not continue after the first-half foul.

Spurs' midfield trio of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Mohammed Kudus offered little creativity, and despite second-half introductions of Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentacur, and Dejan Kulusevski, the visitors never truly threatened to turn the match around. Bentacur came closest, missing a late opportunity in the final seconds.

Bogle's risk and Leeds' resilience

Farke's side did not have it entirely their own way. Trafford needed to be alert throughout, and the question of whether Bogle should have remained on the pitch will linger. Yet when Okafor arrived from the bench, he provided exactly the clinical edge Leeds required — and proved to be the difference between a draw and a precious home victory.
