Rangers Reject Galatasaray Bid for Chermiti as Striker Picks Up Injury

2 hours ago·2 min

Rangers have turned down a bid for striker Youssef Chermiti, with manager Derek McInnes confirming that the offer fell short of the club's asking price — as the 22-year-old suffered an injury during Saturday's home fixture against Hibernian.

Reports had linked Turkish champions Galatasaray with a move for the Portuguese under-21 international. When asked about those reports, McInnes was direct: "I'm led to believe the club's valuation of the player hasn't been met. So, from our point of view, like everything else, when you get clubs looking at your players, it's business as you were."

A player Rangers are not ready to lose

Chermiti arrived at Ibrox from Everton in September 2025 and reportedly became Rangers' most expensive signing since Tore Andre Flo in 2000. Across 43 appearances — 30 as a starter — he has scored 15 goals, establishing himself as a key figure in the squad.

McInnes left no doubt about where the club stands. "It's no surprise that he's a player who's got a big tag on him and he's got high potential, but thankfully he's our player and that will continue to be the case," the manager said.

"We're trying to build a team here at the minute and we're trying to still bring additions to the team that helps us add to the good players that we've got, including Youssef. So it's not something we would encourage at any point."

Recruitment drive continues

Rangers have already completed nine signings this summer following McInnes's appointment from Heart of Midlothian, and the manager indicated more business is in the pipeline. "We've got a few bids in for several players and a few things are ongoing at the minute," he said.

"Ideally a lot of these things would have came to fruition a wee bit quicker, but hopefully, if there is any news to tell, it'll be in the upcoming days on a few of our targets."

The extent of Chermiti's injury sustained against Hibernian has not yet been disclosed.
