Rangers have completed the double signing of Venezuela striker Kevin Kelsy, purchased outright from Portland Timbers for an undisclosed fee, and Algeria winger Badredine Bouanani, who joins on a season-long loan from Stuttgart. The pair bring the total number of new arrivals at Ibrox this summer to 14, with the announcements timed to coincide with the closure of the Scottish summer transfer window on Thursday.

Who is Kevin Kelsy?

Kelsy, 22, has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the option of a further year at the Scottish Premiership club. The 6ft 4in left-footed striker was born in Valencia, Venezuela, and began his career with Mineros de Guayana before moving to Boston River in Uruguay. He then spent two title-winning seasons with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, netting nine goals in 37 appearances.

In April 2024, Kelsy made his first move to Major League Soccer on loan with Cincinnati, scoring six times in 23 outings. Portland Timbers subsequently signed him on a four-year deal when Shakhtar Donetsk sold him in January 2025. He has gone on to make 16 appearances for Portland this season, contributing 10 goals and three assists for a side currently placed 11th in the Western Conference and 17th overall in MLS. Across his entire career, the striker has accumulated 19 goals and five assists in 63 appearances. He has also earned six senior international caps for Venezuela.

Bouanani's road to Ibrox

Bouanani, 21, joined Stuttgart from Nice just over a year ago for a reported £13 million. Despite the move, he struggled for consistent playing time in the Bundesliga, managing only nine starts and 13 substitute appearances as Stuttgart finished fourth in the German top flight last season. He has not featured for the club at all this campaign.

The Algerian winger is no stranger to Scottish football. He was part of the Nice squad that Philippe Clement's Rangers dismantled 4-1 in the UEFA Europa League two years ago, and he also started Stuttgart's 1-0 home defeat to Celtic in last season's Europa League play-off — a result that contributed to the Scottish champions' exit on aggregate.

Born in Lille, Bouanani came through the academy of his hometown club before joining Nice. He had a loan spell with Lorient during his time at Nice and represented France at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Algeria in 2023.
