Rivers United are assembling a formidable squad for their upcoming CAF Champions League campaign, with a string of high-profile Nigeria Premier Football League signings joining manager Finidi George's side ahead of the 2026/2027 edition.
Among the most notable arrivals are Ekene Awazie, a former captain and winger at Enyimba, and Imo Obot, a set-piece specialist who previously represented Abia Warriors and received Super Eagles invitations. The pair add significant NPFL pedigree to the Port Harcourt club's ranks.
Also making the move to the Pride of Rivers is Salman Abubakar, a defensive midfielder who spent last season at Enyimba, completing a switch that further deepens Rivers United's options in the middle of the park.
A wave of new arrivals
The recruitment drive extends well beyond those three. Defender Innocent Gabriel, who featured for Abia Warriors last term, has signed on, as has Kano Pillars defensive standout Muktar Mohammed. Plateau United midfielder Chinechem Ugueze is another new face, alongside relegated Bayelsa United left-back Ubong Williams.
Completing the latest batch of recruits is midfielder Alex Oyowah, who rejoins Rivers United after two seasons away at Remo Stars — a welcome return for a player already familiar with the club's demands.
All of the new signings have begun pre-season training with the 2025/2026 NPFL runners-up at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa, near Port Harcourt.
The club's head of media, Charles Mayuku, confirmed that a formal announcement is forthcoming.
