Rosenior Takes Charge at Paris FC After Chelsea Exit

1 hour ago·2 min

Liam Rosenior has secured his return to management by taking charge of Paris FC on a two-year contract, just months after being dismissed by Chelsea in April.

The 41-year-old, who spent less than four months at Stamford Bridge, steps into the role vacated by Antoine Kombouare. Paris FC finished 11th in Ligue 1 last season, and the club — owned by the Arnault family with Red Bull as a minority shareholder — is eager to push higher up the table.

Paris FC cited Rosenior's "wealth of experience at the highest level", his record of developing young players, and his dedication to "attractive and attacking football" as the key reasons behind his appointment. The deal is understood to include an option for an additional season.

A difficult spell at Stamford Bridge

Rosenior arrived at Chelsea in January as a replacement for Enzo Maresca, who departed following a disagreement with members of the club's hierarchy — Maresca has since gone on to manage Manchester City.

Although Rosenior's early weeks showed promise, results deteriorated sharply. He oversaw five consecutive Premier League defeats to close his tenure, with Chelsea failing to find the net in any of those matches. He was dismissed in April, and Chelsea subsequently appointed Xabi Alonso — formerly of Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen — as his successor. Alonso becomes the sixth permanent manager at Stamford Bridge in four years under BlueCo ownership.

Strong foundations in French football

Despite the difficult end to his Chelsea spell, Rosenior remains well-regarded across the game, largely on the strength of his work at Strasbourg — Chelsea's sister club. He guided Strasbourg to seventh place in 2024-25, securing a spot in the Uefa Conference League while fielding the youngest squad across Europe's top five leagues.

Before his time in France, Rosenior built his coaching reputation in England. He started with Brighton's Under-23s, then moved to Derby County — initially as assistant to Wayne Rooney before stepping up as interim manager. In 2022 he was appointed head coach of Hull City, leading them to 15th in the Championship in his first season and then seventh in his second, before being let go after they missed out on the play-offs.

At Paris FC, Rosenior will look to revive a club with clear ambitions and the backing of one of Europe's most prominent ownership groups.
