Russell Martin, the newly appointed manager of Leicester City, has called on the club to chart its own course rather than be defined by its recent failures — or its legendary past successes.

Leicester are preparing for just their second-ever season in England's third tier, League One, following back-to-back relegations that have sent the 2016 Premier League title winners and 2021 FA Cup holders tumbling down two divisions in the space of a decade.

Forging a new identity

Martin, who previously steered Southampton to top-flight promotion before a turbulent 123-day reign as Rangers manager, acknowledged the weight of Leicester's history but insisted that comparisons to former glories should not set the benchmark for his tenure.
