Sadio Mané has brought an end to his international career, confirming his retirement from the Senegal national team after 130 caps spanning 14 years. The announcement, published by Le Quotidien via Citi Sports on Friday, came just days after Senegal's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup — a 3-2 extra-time defeat to Belgium in the Round of 32.
Mané made his debut for the Lions of Teranga in 2012 at the age of 20 and went on to become one of the most decorated and celebrated players in Senegalese football history.
A defining legacy
The pinnacle of Mané's international journey came when he guided Senegal to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title in 2021, having endured the heartbreak of a runners-up finish in 2019. As captain, he embodied everything the Lions of Teranga stood for — resilience, pride, and an unyielding will to win.
In his farewell statement, the 34-year-old spoke directly to the fans who supported him throughout his career.
