Guinean forward Mohamed Saliou Bangoura — nicknamed "Aloba" — is setting his sights on a defining continental campaign after establishing himself as one of MC Alger's most important attacking weapons in the Algerian top flight.

From Conakry to Algiers

Bangoura, 22, arrived at MC Alger in February 2025 from Hafia Conakry, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal in what was his first professional move outside Guinea. He wasted no time making an impression, netting seven goals in his debut half-season — a return that helped the Algerian champions clinch a second successive league title.

The following 2025/26 campaign brought further evidence of his quality. Bangoura contributed 11 goals across the Algerian league and the Algerian Cup, helping MC Alger defend their domestic crown for a third consecutive season.

Injury setback and return

The season was not without its difficulties. A serious ankle injury sustained during pre-season training in July 2025 required surgery after doctors confirmed a double fracture. The setback kept Bangoura sidelined for several months, and he missed a substantial portion of the first half of the campaign before gradually working his way back into contention.

Now, at the start of the 2026/27 season, "Aloba" is once again pushing for a regular place under Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia, whose technical staff are keen to harness the striker's pace and natural goalscoring instincts.

Continental stage beckons

The immediate focus falls on MC Alger's second-leg tie in the First Preliminary Round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. The club host Niger's AS Nigelec on Saturday, 12 September at the Ali Ammar Stadium — known as Ali La Pointe — in Algiers, following a goalless draw in the first leg in Niger, a match in which Bangoura remained on the bench.

With qualification on the line, MC Alger need to score, and Bangoura will be hoping to seize his moment and lead the attack into the next round.

Beyond the immediate tie, the 22-year-old carries broader ambitions: shining on the continent, adding to his domestic goal tally, and contributing to MC Alger's bid for a second CAF Champions League title in the club's history — their only previous African triumph having come back in 1976.
