Sheffield United have secured the return of midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on a season-long loan, the club has confirmed.

Phillips, 30, made three appearances for the Blades during an initial loan spell that began in February, before a knee injury cut his stint short. His time at Bramall Lane was further complicated by a red card in the Steel City derby.

The England international originally moved to Manchester City from Leeds United in 2022, signing a six-year deal worth £45 million. He was part of the City squad that claimed a historic treble — the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and the FA Cup — in 2023. However, he has since struggled for game time at Etihad Stadium.

Phillips eager to make amends

The midfielder made clear his desire to return, citing his injury-hit debut spell as unfinished business.
